If you find yourself wandering through Setagaya City in Tokyo, make sure to carve out some time to visit Kokeshi, a delightful little cafe that stands as a tribute to both vintage aesthetics and artisanal coffee culture. Nestled just a two-minute walk from Chitose Funabashi Station, Kokeshi is not just a cafe; it's an experience that transports you back to the Showa era.

Step inside, and you’re immediately embraced by the warm, comforting ambiance that the establishment exudes. The unique charm begins at the entry, where a traditional sliding shoji door emits a delightful "garagara" sound as it opens, inviting you to discover a world it's been guarding for decades. The interior thoughtfully combines retro decor with the warm, inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee—one sip and you’ll find it hard to resist taking another.

The real star of the show here, apart from the coffee, is the cafe's decor: an impressive collection of Kokeshi dolls tastefully arranged on the second floor, alongside vintage items that evoke nostalgia. The use of natural light floods the space, creating a calm and relaxed environment, perfect for unwinding with a good book or enjoying sweet conversations. Customers often mention how the quiet intimacy of the cafe makes it a perfect retreat.

Speaking of offerings, while the menu isn't extensive, it packs a punch with quality over quantity. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, do try their celebrated cheesecake—reviewers rave about its delightful taste and perfect texture. Pair it with a cup of their expertly brewed coffee, where hints of both bitterness and acidity dance on your palate without overwhelming it. As customer 'Manny' enthusiastically noted, the coffee here is a delight, complementing the nostalgic feel of the café.

And what adds to this cozy haven is the genuinely friendly service provided by the café's owner, who ensures you feel at home while enjoying your time. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or simply looking for a serene spot to relax, Kokeshi stands out as a true hidden gem in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo.

As many patrons have noted in their reviews—whether it's the tranquil vibe, the exquisite coffee, or the nostalgic decor—Kokeshi has something special to offer every visitor. If you're seeking a unique spot to indulge in simple pleasures, let Kokeshi be your go-to destination in Tokyo. It's not just a cafe, it's a slice of history served with a smile.

This coffee place could not find a better name ! Great atmosphere, coffee, and friendly staff. This is a unique coffee place where you order at the entrance on the first floor, and when you can go to the second floor that is a wonderful space filled with Kokeshi dolls. You can also find a lot of books about different art topics It is a non smoking place Cash or PayPay / Rakuten

Really small but quaint cafe at Chitose Funabashi station. Selection on menu is not big but their cheese cake was really good. It is very quiet so if you are looking for somewhere to chitchat a lot, this may not be the place.

I love the retro Showa feel about this laid back coffee shop. The owner is a great host and she makes a great cup of coffee. Smokers are accomodated on the first floor while non-smokers can relax on the second floor. Good munchies and sweets. The upper area is a tribute to when the "kissa(喫茶店)"was the place to socialize. A must stop in location when in Chitofuna.

I enjoyed this café so so much, it was a beautiful elegant old school style Japanese house converted into a little lovely space for us to enjoy. I really love the old traditional dolls that were neatly placed all over the place, and there are books there to educate yourself too. The owners are more than happy to teach you about the legacy of the dolls and it inspired me to travel up north to learn more. The music was great and the ambience was beautiful, lots of natural light. Obviously the coffee and cake that I ordered matched perfectly with the atmosphere, it was just what I needed. I can’t wait to come back.
